License was granted to Lakel Afrik Petroleum Ltd in Nigeria on the 12th of October 2018 to develop tar sands in Okitipupa region.
Occurrence of seepage and tar sand deposits over the Okitipupa ridge in the Dahomey basin provided the initial impetus for Heavy oil exploration in Nigeria.
Tar sands
Also referred to as oil sands are a combination of clay, sand, water, and bitumen, a heavy black viscous oil. Tar sands will be mined and processed by Lakel Afrik Petroleum Ltd and technical partners commercially to add value to the country’s economy.
